Feast On Game Meats And Attend Artistic Festivals At This Unique Denver Attraction
The Fort is an award-winning, “truly Colorado” restaurant located in Morrison near Red Rocks. The restaurant has been recognized by national media, including The New York Times, and featured on NBC’s Today Show.
The Fort specializes in game meat, especially buffalo steaks, elk, and quail, as well as salmon, trout, and hearty vegetarian fare influenced by American Indian and Mountain Man cuisine.
The restaurant sells more buffalo steaks than any other independently owned restaurant in the country, and the cuisine is known as “New Foods of the Old West,” bringing back popular recipes from the 19th century and adding a modern twist.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a full-scale adobe replica of Bent’s Fort, an important fur trading fort (1833-1849). There are many cultural events and festivals organized by the nonprofit organization Tesoro Cultural Center and held at The Fort, including the Indian Market Powwow May 17-18, 2014, featuring more than 50 award-winning Indian artists and a competition Powwow.
