A satisfied customer shares her trip report from a vacation in our desert paradise.
We chose Utah’s San Rafael Country for our family vacation this year and weren’t disappointed. We’d requested a visitor’s guide for this area, so we were able to plan out the entire trip with the map and information.
Our first stop was Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. We were amazed to learn this quarry is home to one of the world’s most impressive collections of dinosaur fossils, with a unique concentration of the fascinating, meat-eating Allosaurus.
After our hike along several trails through the quarry, we headed south to do a little mountain biking at the Wedge Overlook, also known as the Little Grand Canyon. The view at the overlook was breathtaking, and as we looked down into the bottom of the canyon, we saw two people canoeing the San Rafael River. We decided this would have to be on our list of things to do when we visited again. Exploring some of the trails around the Little Grand Canyon was wonderful and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.
After our ride we looked for a place to cool off; we found it at Millsite State Park. We found out there are some great OHV trails that lead off to the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This too will be added to the list for our next visit. The water was perfect, and we played in the water the rest of the afternoon.
After dinner we decided to play a round of golf at Millsite Golf Course. My husband read this course recently expanded into an 18-hole course and felt the need for a challenge. After a challenging round we called it a night and found a nice place nearby to stay.
The next morning we were off to Goblin Valley State Park. Along the way we stopped to look at rock art, cabins, and old mines. After hunting for goblins, we retired to Green River for a nice dinner and wonderful place to stay. It was time to go home and step back into reality, but before we did we played one round of golf at the Green River State Park’s spectacular golf course.
